Cheers to the Timeless

ヨーロッパの醍醐味は今も活かされている古い街並み。
夕飯どころを探すときには
いつもそんな歴史を感じる場所を探すようにしている。
この日も街を放浪し、
雰囲気のあるバーに足を運んだ。
軽い夕食を頼んで本を読みながら待っていると、
どからともなく日本語の話し声。
顔を上げると、向かいのテーブルにおじさん三人、
スーツ姿に仕事後の食事とビール。
現代の企業戦士の憩いのひと時。
その席に大昔は地元の働き者たちが
同じように仕事後のビールを
仲間と一緒に楽しんでいただろう。
昔も今も変わらない
憩いのひと時に乾杯

The best part of Europe is how the history blends in with the current town.
When ever I go out to eat in Europe,
I try to find places with this history when I search for restaurants.
This day I wonder around Cologne and found an old bar.
I ordered dinner and took out my book as usual
to read as I wait for my dinner to come.
But suddenly I hear some Japanese from one of the tables near by.
I look up and find three men in suits
sitting down at one of the tables for their beer and dinner
after a long day of work.
A corporate worrier of the present
enjoying their moment of rest.
At that same seat, I imagine the workers of the past
enjoying their glass of beer after their job with good friends.
I raise my glass to the moment of relief,
to the never changing oasis for the working.
Cheers to the timeless.
